ATARI TEENAGE RIOT

ATARI TEENAGE RIOT - mp3
Atari Teenage Riot (abbreviated ATR) is a German digital hardcore group formed in Berlin in 1992. Highly political, they fused anarchist, anti-fascist and anti-Nazi views with punk vocals and the newly emerging techno sound called digital hardcore, which is a term band member Alec Empire used as the name of his record label.
ALUMINUM BABE - mp3
A little bit disco, a little electro. A little techno, a little synthpop. Aluminum Babe’s few and hard to find trax are instantly familiar, like ”Everything To Me”. Fun, poppy, heartfelt and sometimes a little achey, their melodies and harmonies are perfectly in-tune with the lead vocals and fast passed synthy beat at a green-field “grungefest” gone wrong.

THE SLACKERS

mpshows.com presents
THE SLACKERS - mp3
The Slackers are true modern day masters who produce moments on stage that are amazing. The band is a lightning rod for talent fronted by the outstanding vocals, songwriting and keyboard playing of Vic Ruggiero, who happens to be supported by one of the hottest and most entertaining live bands today. Vic’s heart wrenching soulful vocal style, percolating keyboard work tossed with Reggae-fied, Afro-Carribean flavor will make you melt. It’s the epitome of what the Slackers do as a band. The Slackers bring together the disparate, and yet closely linked, genres of ska, reggae, jazz, soul, dub and r'n'b and make a real melting pot of melody, rhythm and expression using horns, hammond organ and harmony vocals.
THE GREEN ROOM ROCKERS - mp3
Formed in Lafayette, IN to play one show on Mark's bday...the band has since gone on to put out 3 releases and play over 200 shows touring the entire country from NYC to LA and don't plan to stop. GRR blends the love of RnB, Soul, Ska, and Reggae into something distinctly their own which they dubbed "The HOOISIER HOMEGROWN." MIDWEST SOUNDCLASH is GRR's next release on Dashiki Clout Records...
DROP STEADY - mp3
Formed in the Fall of 2008 on Chicago's South Side, Drop Steady is a six-piece band hailing from across the United States and the Carribean. Inspired by the traditional roots music of Jamaica, Drop Steady blends the sounds of reggae, ska, soca, dub and soul into a sonic cocktail guaranteed to awaken even the heaviest of dancing feet.Combining a fresh diversity of musical talent, Drop Steady has already graced some of Chicago’s biggest stages, and was recently declared the Winner of Harry Caray’s Battle Of The Bands 2009. Known for their raw on-stage energy and explosive live performances, Drop Steady captivates audiences with their soulful melodies, intricate harmonies, and powerful, driving riddims. Drop Steady’s goal is pure and simple – MAKE 'EM DANCE.

SWANS

SWANS - mp3
Michael Gira founded the seminal NYC band Swans in 1982. Quickly infamous for their punishing, brutal and repetitive onslaughts of sound, extreme volume levels, and the self-abusing, abject shouts and growls of Gira's sloganeering vocals, Swans gradually transformed over 15 years, ultimately venturing into harsh mechanical proto-industrial rock, to sprawling shifts of texture and perspective (see the bucolic atmospheric folk idles and martial stomps of their much heralded Children of God double LP from 1987), to gentle acoustic-based songs, and finally on to their ultimate statement, Soundtracks For The Blind (1997) which somehow incorporated all of these elements at once, across well over 2 hours of music in one album. At this point, Gira called it quits after 15 years of relentless touring and productivity, and disbanded Swans. Since 1999 Gira has released his music under the name Angels Of Light. He writes the songs for Angels Of Light on acoustic guitar and orchestrates them using a shifting cadre of musicians, employing a wide variety of instrumentation such as strings, wind, brass, electric guitars, electronics and choral vocals. The songs are often eccentric and extreme, in keeping with Gira's love of soundtrack music. Though nominally more traditional than Swans, Angels Of Light is often just as hard hitting through different means. The most recent album by Angels Of Light is We Are Him. When not recording, writing music, or touring, Gira spends his time producing and releasing music through his label Young God Records. He's been responsible for such notable talents as Devendra Banhart, Lisa Germano, Akron/Family, Larkin Grimm, and James Blackshaw.
BABY DEE - mp3
Performance artist, songwriter, classically trained harpist, circus sideshow veteran, and transgender street legend Baby Dee was born in 1953 in Cleveland, OH. She spent ten years as music director and organist for a Catholic church in the Bronx before joining the circus as the bilateral hermaphrodite at Coney Island. This landed her a gig as the bandleader for performance art group the Bindlestiff Family Circus and a tour with the Kamikaze Freak Show in Europe. After moving back to New York City, she became a fixture in lower Manhattan with a street act on a high-rise tricycle with a concert harp. She recorded her first record, Little Window, on the Durtro label in 2000, a four-track EP in 2001, and her second full-length, the double-disc Love's Small Song, in 2002. Dee returned to Ohio during the latter record's recording, taking vows as a novitiate of the Little Sisters of Crabby Doom (a Cleveland-based order dedicated to the care of smelly old men), vows that she has since forsaken. For her third full-length recording, Dee recruited a typically eclectic army of fellow musicians, including Will Oldham, Andrew W.K., Robbie Lee, Max Moston (Antony and the Johnsons), Bill Breeze (Psychic TV), John Contreras (Current 93), James Lo (Chavez), and Lia Kessel. The resulting Safe Inside the Day arrived in January 2008 on Drag City Records.

KING KHAN AND THE SHRINES - mp3
As many '60s style throwback garage rock bands are releasing records each year, it's encouraging to know that there are artists like Khan, striving to make it fun again. King Khan and The Shrines have the complete package—a big, bold sound, a charismatic frontman, and a stage presence that could catch any ambivalent hipster in its good time, high energy tractor beam.

JAMIE LIDELL

Sat. Oct. 09 - 8:00 pm - 17+ - BUY TICKETS HERE!
JAMIE LIDELL - mp3
Jamie Lidell hasn’t stopped moving. He’s like a shark. Albeit a stone cold funked-up, sonically obsessed, romantically soulful killer shark. And he isn’t going to stop. No, he won’t stop. Please don’t ask him to. Just get out of the way, enjoy the spectacle and the soundtrack. Jamie’s a genuinely restless soul. He broke out of small-town England and has been a nomad ever since. His constant desire to progress—leaping and stumbling towards new discoveries—has defined his musical journey so far; and there’s no sign of it fading away.
ZEUS - mp3
Teamed up in managerial status with roots legend Jason Collett, Zeus plans to spread their words and music to the masses late this year. Giving a new twist to a good ol' rock n' roll sound with songs that hit you on impact, Zeus will occupy a presence that has been dormant since the golden age of precious melodies and 45s. Continuing on as naturally as when it began, bred from the love of music and symbiotic intuition, this undeniable body of work will crash down on traditional melody gluttons and hipsters alike, leaving non-believers to stand in the shadowed corners of Zeus' musical gymnasium to look but not touch. The sky has opened for Zeus, making it a passage, not a limit. The enlightened, who knowingly follow, will be given the key. They will bask in the decorated lands of inspiration, with songs that have the strength to move mountains and the longevity to harvest seasonal desire. The electric bolt of Zeus is now pointed at us all. Time will wield his way.

DEER TICK

DEER TICK - mp3
There are many reasons why Deer Tick are an excellent band. Here are mine. Firstly, they have great songs. War Elephant is a great album. The follow up, Born on Flag Day is just as strong. Alt-country is a curious genre, often misconstrued, misrepresented and misunderstood. Well, for me, this lot here’s a contemporary blueprint. There’s country (duh), punk, blues, folk, grunge and garage rock. Hell, even their choice of cover versions – Replacements, Michael Hurley, John Prine, The Sex Pistols and Chuck Berry – goes a long way to pinning down their sound.
