DREW FLIPPIN

Tue. Jan. 28 - 8:00 pm - 21+ -
FREE SHOW!
DREW FLIPPIN - listen
Country with a cold: twangcore songs that are deadpan and direct. "all pity. no party." is 8 intimate and pathetic stories of people who have indulged the worst parts of their brain – spiraling thoughts, disorientation, paranoia, manipulation, self-pity – songs blending from one vignette of a poor sap to another. i wrote and played everything on it in my studio apt in Ukrainian Village, Chicago.
MEGAN HOZICK - listen
Megan Hozick is a Chicago-based singer/songwriter with definite punk vibes combines well-crafted lyrics with insanely catchy melodies to create songs that will make you think- but not too much. Check out her first EP album on iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify, and more. Joining Megan on guitar is Greg Taylor. Greg has been playing guitar for 15 years, and is currently pursuing his doctorate in mathematics. He plays both with Megan and as a solo act all around Chicago and beyond. And finally, on drums is Ben Piazza. Armed with a spatula and a wooden spoon, Benny "Boomba" Piazza discovered the world of percussion as a fidgety nine year old playing along to his mom's Genesis records. After honing his chops at Valparaiso University under the watchful tutelage of Jazz Professor Jeff Brown, he learned on the bandstand, sharing the stage with master musicians such as Fareed Haque, Roger Harris, Bruce Evans, Marty Sammon, Ben Krause, Mark Colby, and Joe Marcinek. He's currently living in Chicago (Bucktown) and drumming with Chicago Blues Hall of Famer Marty "Big Dog" Mercer, jazz vocalist Livia Gazzolo, and progressive rock band Zahar. He's also involved in a musical titled "A Very Bloody Christmas Carol", now playing at the Greenhouse Theater Center.

MICROCOSMS - listen
Chicago rock band Microcosms began as the brainbaby of Andrew Tschiltsch. The songwriter spent a few years recording demos and experimenting with his sound before enlisting Bryan Emer (bass) and Vadim Suvorin (drums) to fill out the band. The trio quickly found that they were onto something good and went on to rehearse their set for the next year, culminating in the release of the “Know My Body” EP. Lush with addicting progressions, edgy guitars, heavy pop undertones, and walls of sound, the record boasts the aesthetic of alternative rock anthems.

MIKEY ERG

Sun. Feb. 23 - 8:00 pm - 21+ -
FREE SHOW!
MIKEY ERG - listen
Mikey Erg has played on A LOT of records. He has also toured extensively for the better part of two decades in literally countless bands. It’s possible that not even Mikey himself could come close to listing them all. To start with, there is of course the band from which he gets his namesake: The Ergs, New Brunswick, NJ basements’ favorite sons, in which Mikey played drums, sang and was principle songwriter. Additionally, Mikey has played in, toured with and performed on records with Dirt Bike Annie, The Unlovables, The Dopamines, Star Fucking Hipsters, House Boat, Worriers, and even sat in with Weston at their recent reunion shows. Comedian and fellow Don Giovanni Records alum Chris Gethard pegged Mikey to play drums in the house band for his weirdo, fringe late night TV show, The Chris Gethard Show. Since the disbanding of the Ergs, Mikey has fostered a solo project that has kept him super busy performing Billy Bragg-style – just a mic and an electric guitar – all over the world. For a musician with as many notches in his belt as Mikey Erg, it can be difficult to determine the impact of, and weigh the meaning behind each particular release. But Tentative Decisions is the closest thing you can get to an unaltered Mikey expression, maybe even moreso than some of the most celebrated albums he’s released over the years. The album comes out June 24, 2016 on Don Giovanni Records.
THE SLOW DEATH - listen
After several unsuccessful attempts at mining alpacas for wool and chickening out of bank robberies a young Jesse Swan Thorson thought he could make himself rich at playing music. He had no idea how wrong he was. Boasting drunkenly at a divebar in Fargo, ND he convinced some local half-wits to form a band and Pretty Boy Thorson was born. Stringing together music ripped off from Merle Haggard songs and misunderstood bible quotes, Pretty Boy Thorson managed to write and record several records. They embarked on many tours which were merely a thinly veiled excuse to search for Curly's gold after misunderstanding a late 80's Billy Crystal movie. Building what few people would call a 'huge following' by trading tapes advertised in Soldier of Fortune magazine the band skyrocketed to mediocrity. Quickly tiring of Mr. Thorson's deranged antics members of the band fled to opposite coasts of the United States. Realizing he was too lazy to continue on his own, Jesse along with life partner David Strait recruited punk legend Jonny C from the critically acclaimed Rest of Us (Tampa, FL) and a guy named Mike from some bullshit band called The Ergs, they changed their name to The Slow Death to stop running from the obvious. They are now considering touring with top bands and maybe getting a haircut.
DOC HOPPER - listen
Doc Hopper is a punk band from the north east USA. Many tours of the US. Played with so many great bands along the way.
LOOSE BEHAVIOUR
A new loud insanely hook-filled project from long time friends Jesse Thorson, Josh Goldman, Jamie Morrison, Mike Yannich, and Chris Pierce.

96 COUGAR

Tue. Mar. 03 - 8:00 pm - 21+ -
FREE SHOW!
96 COUGAR - listen
The cougar (Puma concolor), also commonly known as the puma, mountain lion, panther or catamount, is a large felid of the subfamily Felinae native to the Americas. Its range, from the Canadian Yukon to the southern Andes of South America, is the widest of any large wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere. An adaptable, generalist species, the cougar is found in most American habitat types. It is the biggest cat in North America, and the second-heaviest cat in the New World after the jaguar. Secretive and largely solitary by nature, the cougar is properly considered both nocturnal and crepuscular, although daytime sightings do occur. The cougar is more closely related to smaller felines, including the domestic cat (subfamily Felinae), than to any species of subfamily Pantherinae, of which only the jaguar is native to the Americas.
ST. MARLBORO - listen
St. Marlboro was formed by a couple of Chicago punks in 2014 in order to explore country and American folk music, with the energy and dynamics of 90s alternative and grunge music.
