THE EPHELON TRIO The Ephelon Trio came together in the fall of 2009 after a year of playing together in Sidewalk Chalk, the trios main project that's quickly gaining momentum in Chicago's burgeoning hip-hop scene. The Ephelon is steeped in the funk, soul, and jazz tradition whilst incorporating a fresh modern swagger to the music's vibe. Initially know for playing intimate and highly improvisational shows consisting of things like Dilla mash-ups, nu jazz a la the likes of Kenny Garret or Robert Glasper, and old school funk - 2011 brings a new avenue of expression to the table with the" Ephelon Plays _____" concert series. December 2010 saw the first of these shows with the Ephelon Trio Plays the Roots Come Alive at Wicker Park's Lokal Lounge. The second of these shows taking place on February 17 will showcase Ephelon's take on Radioheads "In Rainbows" and "Kid A" albums. Be on the look out for Ephelon to play down an artist or a specific album every month or so. Feel free to holler with albums/artists you think the Ephelon Trio should play.

VEGAS WITCHCRAFT Vegas Witchcraft was a band from Elgin, IL., started circa 1992, by Joe Caughlin (guitar), Matt Vecchio (vocals)(Contracide, Mashers, Mons, etc..), and Aaron Rhoades (drums) (Cript, Soul Joke, etc..), and Steve Dallas (bass). A year later, Steve left, and Erik Pertl (bass) (Contracide, Lord Blasphemer, Malas, Groovy Love Vibes, etc..) joined the band. Vegas Witchcraft’s sound was heavily influenced by; Rolling Stones, Stooges, Mudhoney, Replacements, booze, loneliness, and frustration. They played many shows around the Elgin/Chicago area and recorded 2 (previously unreleased) demo tapes, now available as 1 full album on their web page. FAST DECAY - mp3 Rats in tuxedos, watercolor portraits of the devil, and the crumbling face of a cheeto-woman: images that come to mind while listening to Fast Decay. Or not... Basement music from Chicago's Back of the Yards; which is not the same as the backyard of Chicago (...except for the giant vermin). RIVERS OF NIHIL In a time when the music industry is highly over saturated, it's rare when artists genuinely strive to create something different from the norms of their genre. This Reading PA based 5 piece has been doing just that. Forming out of previous bands and local comradery, Jake,Brody,Jon,Biggs and Ron are on a relentless path of taking things to the next level. In the less than year they've been together, they've recorded an EP titled "hierarchy" with producer Carson Slovak,which has been getting a ton of buzz in the online community and local music press. This band is pushing to break boundaries and to bring their music to as many people as possible. KATAPLEXY Chicago,Illinois’s Kataplexy are up-and-coming band to watch for in the brutal death metal scene In 2011 the band released there Extreme Hockey Metal Theme Promo titled “Intermission Zamboni Disfigurement” consisting of three songs which was released independently by the band. The promo was intended to give the fans and death metal community a idea of what we want to sound and accomplish in the scene. The promo was tossed around from local shows to Maryland Deathfest. It was very well received throughout the death metal community. In 2011 the band once again independently released their first-length “Mind Deterioration”. So far has received very positive reviews.

ROMAN RING (Formally Small Town Murder) - mp3 A Roman Ring is a configuration of more than one wormhole. Micawber strives to break away from the slow, boring, half-time chugs that have infected the metal scene today, while still maintaining enough energy in their music to put on an intense live show. STINKING LIZAVETA - mp3 After four album releases and 10 years of touring around the country blitzing audiences with their famously dynamic live shows, Philadelphia’s instrumental power trio Stinking Lizaveta (named for a Dostoevsky character) has become an institution of sorts in the US underground music scene. Their eclectic style of music incorporates post-rock, metal, sludge, prog, stoner and doom with jazz stylings and eastern influences. RockDetector's book, 'History of Stoner, Goth, and Doom', categorizes their music as 'doom-jazz', a label that the band have taken to citing when asked to describe their music. XADDAX Xaddax is Nick Sakes (ex-Dazzling Killmen, Colossamite, Sicbay) and Chrissy Rossettie (ex-My Name Is Rar-Rar, The Hex). GUZZLEMUG - mp3 Birthed in Minneapolis in the autumn of 2006, the newly Chicago-based Guzzlemug is Tom Kelly(bass, vocals), Shane Prendiville(guitar, vocals) and Charlie Werber(drums, percussion). MAD CONDUCTOR Mad Conductor was formed in 2005 in Center Valley, PA by studio engineer Dan McKinney and song writer and vocalist MC Devlin. Beginning their work in Dan's House Studio, the duo seamlessly blended hip-hop, funk, reggae, blues, jazz, and psychedelic rock to form their own unique and refreshing sound. After they released their first EP, Mechanical Claw, MC Devlin formed a live band that went on tour in Europe and all corners of the United States. During this time, the band was also writing and recording, and June of 2007 saw their first full-length album, "Renegade Space Rock". The album was very successful, and has gone on to sell over 3,000 copies to date. The band continued touring, and after the release of a two song EP titled "Members Only" in early winter of 2008, MC Devlin moved to New Orleans where he planned on writing a new album and returning to Pennsylvania to record it in three months. Instead, MC Devlin put his musical efforts on hiatus and spent the next three years dedicating himself to Kung Fu training, meanwhile releasing an obscure four song EP titled "Central America" in January 2010. After receiving a black belt in spring 2011, he assembled a live line up of New Orleans musicians and resumed touring in the United States, and released the single "Lethal Protector" in June. Currently the live band consists of MC Devlin as lead vocalist with five players mainly stationed on keyboard, bass guitar, electric guitar, saxophone and drum-kit, but also offering back-up vocals, with several members platooning between trombone, synthesizer and hand percussion. While working on a new full-length album, and a Canadian tour already under the belt, Mad Conductor will be touring the United States extensively this year, with plans to release their new full length "MC Rises" in spring of 2013. AGENTS OF CHANGE A motley crew of rabble rousers, trouble makers, and political dissidents who are set to besiege the dance hall with a fury comparable only to barbarians that burned Rome. Their backgrounds are varied as are their motivations, but the end result is a whirlwind of politics and post-genre musical fusion. Since 2005 they have brought their blend of styles and anti-authoritarian politics to stages across the United States, launching guerrilla style attacks from their secret headquarters in Chicago, IL.
